Successful Tenancies First Nations Project

Overview
The initiative aims to improve rental experiences for First Nations people through tenant advocacy and education for real estate professionals.

Purpose
To address structural barriers faced by First Nations Queenslanders and enhance system responses for tenants at risk of tenancy breaches or involvement with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Key Objectives
Increase Understanding

Improve awareness of challenges faced by First Nations renters and the barriers impacting them.

Enhance Service Delivery

Strengthen relationships with community and government services across Queensland to ensure culturally appropriate support and referral pathways for First Nations renters.

Promote Cultural Responsiveness Tenancy Management

Co-design culturally informed tenancy management training and educational resources for real estate agents and landlords in partnership with an Indigenous Community Controlled Organisation.

Expected Outcomes

Greater cultural safety and improved access to services for First Nations renters.
Stronger collaboration between community organisations, housing providers and government agencies.
Increased awareness and responsiveness among real estate professionals to support sustainable tenancies.
